Dindigul
· This district was carved out of Madurai in the year 1985 September 15 and was named as Dindigul Anna District.
· In 1989 renamed as Dindigul Kaithamilath district.
· In 1997 renamed as “Dindigul District”
· It has one parliamentary seats
· It also holds 7 state legislative seats.
· Agriculture – Paddy, Sugarcane, Corns, Groundnut, grains, Ragi, tobacco etc.
· This district holds the most famous Kurinji flower near Palani hill. Because of which this district is also called “Princes of All Hills”
· High level of flowers are produced in this district. So it is also called as “Holland of Tamil Nadu”.
Speciality:
· Dindigul Fort was started construction by Madurai King “Muthu Krishna Naicker” in 1605 and it was completed by “Thirumalai Naicker” in 1659.
· University’s – Gandhigram Rural university Mother Theresa university for women (Kodaikanal)
· The famous fall : The famous “Thalaiyar” is also called as ‘Rat Tail’
· The national freedom fighter Subramaniya Siva was born in this district.
· St. Joseph church was constructed in 1866 was 125 years old.
