Nilgiris

·         In 1882 Nilgiris received the status of District

·         It has one parliamentary seats and 3 legislative assembly seats.

·         River : R.Paikara,

·         Dams : Paikara, Avalanchi, Emerald, Kundha, Mukrudhi.

Speciality:

·         Nilgiris is located at the meeting spot of western Ghats and Eastern Ghats.

·         The highest peak of Tamil Nadu is Dotabetta (2636 m)

·         The famous Mudumalai wildlife sanctuaries was started in 1940. It was the first wildlife of sanctuary of Tamil Nadu.

·         Mukurthi National Park was started in 1990.

·         Ooty Botanical Garden (1847-1867) M.C.Ivar has constructed this Garden.

·         The famous Toda Tribe is found in this district.

·         Toda’s dresses are called Put kuli.

·         Sholas – Southern Mountane west Temperate forest is the speciality of Ooty.

·         In 2005 Nilgiris train was recognised by UNESCO.
