Kanyakumari
·         It was bifurcated from Travencore on Nov 1, 1956.
·         It has one parliamentary seat (i.e.) Kanyakumari.
·         It has six seats in legislative assembly
·         Rivers – 1. R. Thamirabarani, 2. R.Mullai 3. R.Valli (combination of R. Kodai and R. Baraliaru)
·         The minerals present in the sand of the coastal area are Titanium, Monozite, Thorium and Uranium.
·         A famous dance called Kalial is held at Kanyakumari villages.
Speciality
·         It is also called the rice bowl of South India.
·         It has more forest area (2nd largest forest area in Tamil Nadu)
·         This district receives rainfall from both South West and North east monsoon.
·         In 1897 Mr. Mincin from Europe has built a dam called Pachuparai on the R.Kodai.
·         Benjamin Dam is built across R.Baraily
·         133 feet Thriuvalluvar statue was opened in Jan 1, 2000
