MAINS EXAMINATION
INSTRUCTIONS (UPSC)
• Don’t take any articles such as books, notes, loose sheets, mobile phones etc.  into the examination hall.  
• Do answer the précise question only in the special précise‐ sheet supplied to you (in language paper).
• Do graph related questions on graph sheet only. 
• Don’t leave any blank space unused between the answers.  If such space is left it must be scored out by the candidates and indications such as ‘p.t.o.’ or ‘continued’ must be given before returning the answer book.  
• Don’t attempt questions in excess of the prescribed number.
• Candidates must note that they should answer all parts and sub‐parts of a question continuously in the answer‐book.  In other words, candidates must not mix parts/sub‐parts of different questions in the sequence of their attempt in the answer book(s).
• Don’t smoke or drink tea etc. in the examination hall as it is prohibited by UPSC.  
Do’s
1. Do have a proper sleep (6 to 8 hours), the day before the exam.
2. Do have a light break fast and lunch on the exam day. Take some chocolates, as it is believe to sharpen the thinking process.    
3. Before leaving your room ensure that you have taken your hall ticket, Pen, Pencil, Writing pad, etc., 
4. Reach the examination centre well in advance  (Exam Time: F.N – 9.00 -12.00 A.N – 2.00 -5.00)
5. Do write a general article on a rough page before you enter the exam hall (for writing practice). 
6. Read the Instructions (in Hall ticket, Answer sheet & Questions Paper) carefully
7. Read the Questions twice (or) thrice before selecting the question.
8. Select the Questions which you feel more confident,  comfortable and the one which suits to your writing style.
9. Write according to the requirements  asked in the question ( viz Comment, Elucidate, Discuss).
10. Try to be more relevant in answering the Question.
11. Give primacy for important points while writing the answer. 
12. Stick to the word limits. So that you can manage the time properly. 
13. For every one hour ensure that you completed / crossed 100 marks 
14. Use Appropriate diagrams if necessary 
15. Try to complete the question paper in both G.S. and optional subjects. 
16. Enter your question number, page number and number of additional sheets used in front of the answer sheet without fail. 
17. Before handling over the answer sheet ensure that the roll no, number of additional sheets, question no and page no are correct. 
Don’t
18. Don’t give radical views. 
19. Don’t use flowery language, use simple sentence. 
20. Do not speculate how much marks you might get, while taking the exam concentrate on doing whatever you know. Do not discuss the answer after the end of F.N Session 
21. Do not get disturbed by any external factors.
22. Don’t get distracted by watching what other people are doing in the hall. 
23. Don’t lose confidence in the middle of exam if you feel that you have attempted a section of paper badly, it will degrade your performance in the remaining question. Generally if it is tough, it is for everyone. 
24. Don’t get involved in unfair practice in the examination as it may lead to deportment from UPSC
