Tantia Tope - He Served Nana Saheb and won fame by his patriotism, determined fighting and guerrilla mode of warfare. His actual name was Ramchandra Pandurang. He helped Rani Laxmi Bai to capture Gwalior fort. He fell into the hands of British due to betrayal by his friend. He was tried and sentenced to 18 April, 1859.
Kunwar Singh – He was the chief organiser of the Revolt in Bihar. He had undaunted courage, chivalry and qualities of general ship. He overthrew the British authority in Shahabad district. He provided the longest most valiant and spirited resistance to the British. He was severely wounded and died on 26 April, 1856. He was regarded as ‘Lion of Bihar’.
Bahadur Shah Zafar – He was the last Mughal emperor who was declared the king of Hindustan by the rebels. His three young sons were shot dead publicly. He was exiled to Rangoon along with his wife Zeenat Mahal where he died on 7th November, 1862. He was a poet of high order and wrote under the pen name of ‘Zafar’
Rani Laxmi Bai - she was the widow of last Maratha King of Jhansi Gangadhar Rao. She rebelled when the British annexed her state in contravention of the treaty of 1817. Fighting bravely, she captured Gwalior and later died on the battle-field. Commander Hugh Rose described her as “The bravest and best military leader of the rebels.”
Nana Saheb - He was the adopted son of last Peshwa Baji Rao II and his real name was Dhondu Pant. He led the revolt at Kanpur, expelled the English and proclaimed himself Peshwa. Finally he was defeated by the British but refusing to surrender, he escaped to Nepal. Till his death he continued to defy the British authorities.
